April Vacation Activities

Dog Obedience Classes

The Aroostook Kennel Club offers dog obedience classes in the fall and spring at the William V. Haskell Community Center.  The classes meet on Monday evenings and typically last 8 weeks.  Dogs must be at least 6 months of age and their handlers must be at least 14 years old.  Proof of shots and a fee is required.  Registration is done through the Kennel Club.

Father & Daughter Valentine Dance

Our annual Father & Daughter Valentines Dance is for girls' ages 6-12 and their dads.  The event is scheduled for a Friday in February from 7:00-9:00 PM at the William V. Haskell Community Center.  The cost is $6 per couple.  Notice will be provided when tickets go on sale. 

February Vacation Activities

"Fowl" Shooting Contest

The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks holds an annual "Fowl" Shooting contest.  The contest is for children in grades 4-8 and their parents.  Participants each take 10 free throws and combine their scores.  Top finishers in each division will receive a Thanksgiving turkey (fowl).  Shooting days and times will be announced.  There is no cost for this program.

Hershey Track & Field

Hershey Track & Field is a nationally recognized event for boys and girls ages 9-14 who partake in various track & field events.  Participants will have practices and a local meet (TBA) and will have the opportunity to advance to regional, state and national contests.  Age is determined as of December 31.  The cost is $10 and includes a t-shirt.  Registration is taken at time of summer registration.

Hotshot Competition

The Hotshot competition is a basketball skills competition for youth 9-18 years of age.  It involves shooting from five "hot spots" marked on one end of the basketball court testing each contestant's speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability.  Local winners will advance to the regionals.  Top regional scorers will be eligible for the state competition.  The event is typically held in January, exact dates will be announced.

Kids' Christmas Party   

Parents can finish their Christmas shopping while their kids enjoy an evening of fun at the community center.  Activities may include bingo, yankee swap, gym games and pizza eating.  For kids in grades 1-5, the party is from 6-9:30PM on a Friday evening in December.  Pre-registration is required as there are limited spaces available.  The fee is $5 per child, plus a $3-5 yankee swap gift.  Dates will be announced.

Kids' New Years Overnight

Parents can enjoy their New Year's Eve out without having to worry about their kids and the kids can have a great time with their friends at their very own New Year's Eve party.  Children will be spending the night at the recreation center and will get to enjoy gym games, swimming at the indoor pool, a New Year's celebration, pizza, movies and more.  Pre-registration is required with limited spaces available.  The cost is $20 per child.  Registration begins in December.  

Mother/Son Dance

Our annual Mother's Day Dance is held on a Friday evening in May from 7:00-9:00 PM.  Boys in grades K-5 are invited to bring their moms to a special night of dancing at the community center.  Tickets are $6 per couple and notice will be given as to when they may be purchased.   

Pitch, Hit & Run Competition

The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department hosts a Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run competition.  The competition is free and open to all Presque Isle area boys and girls between the ages of 7-14.  The event allows participants to showcase their baseball talents in throwing, hitting and base running.  The event takes place in May at the pool diamond in Presque Isle.  Registration begins at 5:30 PM with the competition starting at 6:00 PM on a date to be announced.  There is no cost.  Local winners will advance to the sectionals in Orono at the University of Maine later in June.  Top performers at the sectionals will be eligible to advance to the team championships in Boston.  Winners from there, move on to the nationals during the Major League Baseball All-Star weekend. 

Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department will host a National Football League Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition for boys and girls ages 8-15.  The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition allows youth to showcase their talents in punting, passing and kicking, with scoring based on distance and accuracy.  The top finishers in each age group will advance to the sectional competition at the University of Maine at Orono.  The competition is free and will be held at Riverside Park.  Registration is at noon and the event begins at 1:00 PM.  An adult must accompany participants when registering.  Dates will be announced.

Open Gym

Youth open gym begins on the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs through April vacation week.  Regular Saturday & Sunday youth open gym hours are as  follows:                       

Elementary Youth: 1:00-3:00

Middle School & High School Youth: 3:00-5:00 PM

Middle School Youth: Middle School Only Night on Fridays 6:30-9:00 PM

In addition, open gym hours will be available during the school vacation breaks.
